When is Copper Wire the Right Choice for Electronic Applications?

Straight and cut wireCopper wire is an excellent choice for electronic devices, which is why the material is highly sought after. Copper wire offers many benefits over similar wire materials, which is why it is the world’s most widely used electrical wire cable. The cable is used in many fiber-optic applications and devices we benefit from daily. What makes copper wire so desirable?

The material is highly conducive. Silver is the only other pure metal that offers better electrical conductivity than copper. In most applications, the difference between the two is negligible. Copper can safely and effectively handle high electrical power levels while offering armoring and insulation.

Copper wire is an excellent option for high heat applications. The material has a high heat resistance and, as a result, eliminates issues with overloading.

Copper is both ductile and malleable. Copper is an excellent material for straight and cut wire because the wire can be produced as thin as hair. These wires can be bent into shape without the fear of breaking.

Although copper is an excellent choice for main electronic applications, it is not always an intelligent choice. Choosing copper is expensive and does not excel in all areas.

Copper wire should not be used in applications that demand small amounts of electricity, which is why they are often not found within semiconductors and high-tech automotive parts. Copper wires are also prone to issues from EMI. Electromagnetic interference can cause electronics to stop working; unfortunately, copper is susceptible to this problem.
